Subh was born in the Christian kingdoms and was captured as a child. 

He received an impressive education in Al-Andalus and her great intelligence did the rest.
After the death of her husband, the caliph, she ruled Al-Andalus with Almanzor. 

She was regent of her son Hisham II, and took care of many of the government's tasks for decades. However, she does not appear in your textbook.
